Hannah Collins. The Fragile Feast

Collins, Hannah (2011)

The Fragile Feast is the outcome of the collaboration between the artist Hannah Collins and Catalan chef Ferran Adrià. It explores the origins of food in different cultures. Collins sought out the original sources of a selection of around thirty foods and ingredients Adrià uses in his famous restaurant elBulli. Together with the photographs, each ingredient in the book is accompanied by a text describing the work of the hunters, farmers or gathers behind it, as well as maps pinpointing the origins of the products; the book also includes twelve recipes by Ferran Adrià.
Banco Sabadell has sponsored the Spanish edition of the book published by Hatje Cantz. The book launch is going to take place on 24 January at Ivorypress in the presence of the artist and Ferrán Adrià.

Architecture and design
Jim Stirling and the Red Trilogy "three radical buildings"
Stirling, Jim

The University of Leicester Engineering Building, the History Faculty and Library at Cambridge, and the residential Florey Building at Queen's College are much praised by architects, yet hated by the members of the universities that use them. Here Alan Berman has drawn together essays that put the buildings in their historical context while exploring both their radical features and their technical failings. In addition, 22 of today's most famous architects - including Will Alsop, Norman Foster, Richard MacCormac, and Richard Rogers - explain and partly seek to defend the importance of these radical and controversial buildings. With top contributors and newly commissioned photography, as well as stunning drawings taken from the Jim Stirling archives, this book attempts a serious reengagement with the continuing debate between modern architects and the public.

Street Photography Now
VVAA

Here are forty-six contemporary image-makers who are noted for their candid depictions of life on the streets and in the subways, at shopping malls and movie theaters, on beaches and in parks.
Included are luminaries such as Magnum members Bruce Gilden, Martin Parr, and Alex Webb (who are still "seeing what is invisible to others," as Robert Frank put it), along with an international group of emerging photographers whose individual biographies illuminate the stories behind their pictures of New York, Tokyo, Delhi, or Dakar.
Four thought-provoking essays and a global conversation between leading street photographers explore the compelling and often controversial issues in the genre. A select bibliography and a resource section for aspiring street photographers complete the book.

The Devil and Daniel Johnston
Feuerzeig, Jeff

Daniel Johnston is a manic-depressive genius singer/songwriter/artist, revealed in this portrait of madness, creativity and love. The Devil and Daniel Johnston is a stunning portrait of a musical and artistic genius who nearly slipped away. Director Jeff Feurzeig exquisitely depicts a perfect example of brilliance and madness going hand in hand with subject Daniel Johnston. As an artist suffering from manic depression with delusions of grandeur, Daniel Johnston's wild fluctuations, numerous downward spirals, and periodic respites are exposed in this deeply moving documentary.
